Upgrading memory on your desktop PC does not require any special skills, but you have to be careful during installation. An improperly handled or attached memory module may not function. Here are some general guidelines that can help you when installing memory on your desktop PC.
* Prepare Equipment
Before you can begin installing memory, you have to have the extra memory modules! You may also need a screwdriver to remove the cover of your computer case.
* Dispel Static Energy
Dispel any buildup of static electricity on your body by grounding yourself. You can do this by either wearing an antistatic wrist strap or by frequently touching a grounded metal surface during installation.
RAM modules and other internal pc computer hardware are highly sensitive to static electricity which is produced by friction. If you do not ground yourself, you risk destroying your memory modules, as well any other computer component that you come in contact with.
* Turn Off and Unplug PC
Turn off your computer and detach the power cord from the wall socket as a safety precaution. Even though your computer is turned off, electricity can flow through the plugged power cables during a power surge.
* Open PC Case
Once you have safely shut down your computer and grounded yourself, remove the cover of your computer case. Cases come in a variety of architectures and are dismantled in different ways. You should consult your computer manual for aid. Use the screwdriver to remove any screws holding the cover in place.
* Install Memory
Look for the RAM slots on your motherboard and install your RAM modules. Hold the RAM modules by the edges, avoiding the connectors, and align them vertically on the RAM slots. Push down gently until the RAM module snaps into place.
* Close PC Case
After all your RAM modules are properly installed, close your computer case and reconnect the power cables of your computer.
* Check RAM Amount
When you boot up your computer, do not forget to check whether the extra memory has been recognized by your desktop PC.
