Buying a Laptop Battery: Three Things to Consider

You can only truly appreciate the beauty and functionality of a laptop when you bring it with you outdoors and do your computing without plugs and power outlets. Many people buy a laptop for its portability alone and the ability to work on the go. Many laptops, however, ship with a standard battery that can only power a laptop for a few hours. Sometimes a few hours are not enough to finish your computing tasks. It is therefore a good idea to buy a spare battery for your laptop. Here are some factors that may want to consider before buying an extra laptop battery.

* Battery Power and Life

A high-capacity laptop battery can pack more juice than one of lower capacity. If you want a battery that can make your laptop run longer, upgrade your current battery. If your laptop came with a 12-cell battery, opt for a 15-cell replacement. Higher powered batteries are, of course, more expensive but they are well worth their price and endurance.

* Compatibility

Check out the make and model of your notebook computer before purchasing a spare battery. To do this, remove your laptop battery from the laptop casing. The information is printed somewhere inside the battery compartment.

Most laptops are designed to hold batteries of a certain type, shape and size. If your laptop came with a Lithium-ion battery, you should replace it with a Lithium-ion battery. You can talk to a computer technician and ask for advice on the type of batteries that can fit inside your laptop. This is probably the best course for you to take if you have little knowledge about computer hardware. The battery you purchase should be compatible with your system. Otherwise, it will not fit in the battery compartment and you will not be able to use your new purchase.

* Brand

You do not necessarily have to buy a spare battery from your laptop manufacturer although this is an easy and hassle-free solution for the ordinary computer user. If you know the specific power rating of your laptop battery, the connections needed, and the appropriate size of the battery, you can buy spare batteries from other manufacturers. When purchasing batteries from other companies, it is advisable to stick with popular brands known for high quality products. A defective battery can be fire hazard.

You can find and order many laptop batteries online. Take great care that you are buying a compatible replacement battery of good make and quality.
